How do I get blue crayola off of an antique picture?

krazysexyeyes asked:
While in the process of moving I did not realize that my son got a hole of my great-great grandmothers picture and colored all over the actual picture (not the frame or the glass) with a blue crayon. How can I get this off without ruining the picture or spending an arm and a leg on repair?

I imagine the picture itself has the same texture as pictures do now, so here is what I would do. I would try to peel off the crayon mark with my fingernail a little at a time, crayolas are wax based, then try to rub it with a soft cloth. If it looked as though I were hurting the picture in any way I would take it to a specialist. People who may know what to do further could be a professional photographer, or someone who works in an art gallery or museum. good luck.

I promise this is true. { the kind of lighter fluid that you fill up Zippos with will take it right off when applied with a napkin or cloth.

I’d try a majic eraser. Liquids of any kind to further damage.
